How to Spot the Overachiever in Class (Hint: They Were Stretching in the Parking Lot)

Every group fitness class has one: the person who’s not just here to work out — they’re here to win.You know them. You’ve seen them. You may be them.

Here are the telltale signs:

1. They Arrive 30 Minutes Early

While the rest of us are debating whether we even feel like working out today, they’re already in the parking lot doing dynamic stretches next to their car. Bonus points if they brought their own foam roller.

2. They Warm Up… Before the Warm-Up

The instructor hasn’t even hit “play” yet and they’re already dripping sweat. Somehow, they’ve managed to do a 5K in the time it took you to untangle your headphones.

3. They Bring Their Own Equipment

Yes, the studio provides mats. No, that’s not good enough. They have a mat with their name embroidered on it, resistance bands in six different colors, and a water bottle big enough to irrigate a small farm.

4. They Treat Every Class Like the Olympics

Whether it’s squat jumps, planks, or an innocent stretch break, they’re going for gold. If there were medals for lunges, they’d already have a display case.

5. They Give the Instructor “Helpful Tips”

Not in a bad way — but in a slightly intimidating way. “Actually, my heart rate peaks better if we reverse the Tabata sequence…” Sure, Brad. Sure.

6. They Cool Down Longer Than the Class Lasted

While you’re already in the car googling “post-workout pizza near me,” they’re still in Child’s Pose, manifesting tomorrow’s gains.

💡 Moral of the story: We need these people. They push the class, set the pace, and make us all just a little better… even if we’re silently planning to hide their foam roller.
